Model Making in R.E.

by Aimee King,

Year 7 were put in groups to make a model of a home shrine within the Hinduism scheme of work.

Model making encourages deeper learning of a particular topic compared to traditional lecture style. It also investigates how student engagement can be improved as a result of creating a 'constructivist environment'.

Models provide an environment for interactive student engagement. Evidence shows that significant learning gains are achieved when students participate in interactive engagement activities.
Thus, it is important that the learning environment and activity created around a model provide an interactive engagement experience.
