Structure Strips and Question Grids

Across the geography department, we have been using structure strips These are strips of paper that students stick in the margin of their books. These strips break down our 9 mark questions into sections and have helpful hints about how to structure their answers.

The students have found these very useful and it gives them the confidence to structure the 9 mark question properly. A common question from students is, "I don’t know how to start it!" Since having these strips in their books, I have seen an increase in student’s ability to crack on with the questions without help. These strips also come in useful when peer assessing the 9 mark questions. Please feel free to tweak the example for use in other subjects!
